Name of the Department:-Department of Microbiology

Introduction of the department:
The Department of Microbiology Dr. Ghali College, Gadhinglaj, established in 2007 with the objective to provide the facility of higher education to students from Gadhinglaj city and nearby villages. The Department has excellent infrastructure and instruments for teaching and research. There are 2 laboratories 1 for UG and other for PG. It stands as one of the major departments within the college. The postgraduate section commenced its journey in 2021. The current capacity for the Microbiology course is 22 seats for master’s on a non-grant basis. Over 44 students have successfully completed the master’s program. Admission to all seats is strictly merit-based, determined through a university-conducted entrance examination, adhering to both university and government regulations. The eligibility criterion for the course is a B.Sc. in microbiology. These courses aim to bridge the gap between academia and industry, addressing social, industrial, and environmental issues. Actively contributing to academic discourse, the department organizes conferences, seminars, workshops, guest lectures, and student-alumni interactions.
The department has prominent alumni holding diverse positions in various institutions and industries across India, such as the Serum Institute of India Pune, Gennova Biopharmaceuticals, Hi Tech Biosciences, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Hyderabad, Lupin, Cipla, and Glenmark Pharmaceuticals, Yapan Bio pvt. Ltd hydrabad , zydus candila etc. Additionally, alumni have made significant contributions to microbiology departments at various universities and colleges and internationally at institutions like Universiti Teknikal Malaysia, Melaka.

Objectives of the Department:

1. To provide high quality education and training to students in Microbiology, helping them to develop a strong foundation in the field.

2. To develop confidence in the students so they can go for higher education or acquire job.

3. To inculcate good research manners among the students.

4. To collaborate with other department, institutions and industries to promote interdisciplinary research and outreach activities.

4. Mr. Laxmikant Vardapgol and Suraj Halgadagi Won First Prize in Institutaion Level Avishkar Research Competition from ‘Agriculture and Animal Husbandry’ Category.

5. Among first batch of PG Microbiology out of 22 Students, 20 Students were placed in various Pharmaceutical Industries.
