Name of the Department:-Department of Physics

Introduction of the department:

Physics is a natural science that studies how the universe works at its most fundamental level. It involves the study of matter, its motion and behaviour through space and time, and related concepts such as energy and force. Physicists study nature on scales as small as an atomic nucleus to as large as the observable universe. Department of Physics started in 1995-96 and has established one of the major research centres in the region. It offers B.Sc. Physics for class I and II. It has high level research facilities like, Spray pyrolysis method, chemical bath and vapour deposition method as well as various property measurements set up like four probe resistivity, Hall effect, LCR-Q meter etc. Department also have facilities like LCD assembling facility for skill based courses and COC like Repairing and maintenance of Domestic electrical and electronic Appliances. Department has an Anveshika centre run by National Anveshika Network of India (NANI) is one the centre in Maharashtra. Departmental faculty work as a resource person for different programmes and conferences for all India level with various topics like, Physics demonstrations, Sky watching IPR, Pollution, etc. For UG students Department conduct various workshops and seminars to understand better physics concepts.

Physics departments offer a variety of opportunities for students, including:

Objectives of the Department:

• Better understanding of Physics concepts for UG students.

• To hear is to forget, to see is to remember, to do is to understand meaning clearing concepts one has to develop models.

• Advancement of science and scientific attitude in rural and hilly areas by providing Research projects and demonstration presentation for trained B.Sc. students to various schools and colleges.

• Progression of scientific knowledge among the people through organizing guest lecture, seminar, symposiums and workshops etc.

• To start an open science laboratory for providing platform to cater the creative strength and promote enhanced scientific activities in the field of physics.

Department Achievements:

• Departmental Anveshika centre developed 473 demonstrative Experiments.

• Skill based all India level experimental test (NAEST) conducted for each year in two different parts consisting part I for school level and part II UG and PG level.

• More than 16 students presented research papers in various National international seminars and Conferences.

• 20 students carried research projects funded by College through Research sensitization Scheme.

• Departmental Faculty worked as resource person at all India level and more than 50 lectures including India International Science Festival (IISF), IAPT Conventions, National level conferences etc.

• More than 42 Research papers published by Departmental faculty in various National and International Journals.

• Departmental faculty presented 19 papers in various conferences and seminars.

• Demo experiments presentation for school children and school teachers. Total of more than 12000 students and 200 science teachers benefited from different programmes in last five years.

• Class wise demo and hands on activities developed.

• Science Teachers workshop cum training progrmme for each year.

• Workshops on designing experiments for B.Sc. students and training to present demonstrations in front of school children.

• Each year our B. Sc. Students visit at least 20 schools to present demonstrations.

1. Department has establishedGCG-IAPT Anveshika centre is one of 26 centres at all India level.

2. Departmental Faculty work as a Research Guide and four Research students pursuing their Ph.D. in the Department.
