Name of the Department:-Department of Botany

Introduction of the department:

The Department of Botany was established in 1996. The Department offers an undergraduate program in affiliation with Shivaji University, Kolhapur.

Faculty members of Botany utilize maximum possible approaches to teach students. Some of these approaches include conducting group discussions, PowerPoint presentations and educational videos over smart board, forest and nursery visits. The department is keen on “Learning by Doing” such as on field demonstrations, campus surveys and lab experiments so that the students are actively involved in learning process.

Highlights of the Department:

Faculty member(s) of Botany Department are recipients of various fellowships for postdoctoral research. They have been resource person for workshops and training programs.

To provide hands on training on garden and nursery techniques in plant sciences, the Department has introduced career oriented course “Gardener Trainer”.

Department helps research students from various colleges from nearby area in identification of plant materials used in research.

1. To spread the knowledge of basic plant biology among the students for their academic excellence.

2. To empower the students to use their academic knowledge to become entrepreneur in the field of Botany.

3. To set up training programs to generate livelihood for local farmers such as high density cultivation of fruit bearing species, mushroom cultivation and usage of medicinal plants/herbs against common diseases.

4. To promote activities for conservation of unique plant species such tree plantation, popular talks and exhibition etc.
